Job Description Description Position Summary The Executive
Medical Director for the East Region provides clinical leadership
and expertise for the UNC Health Capacity Command Center – East
Region. This role offers professional guidance to clinicians and
operational leadership on matters related to managing interhospital
patient flow and hospital capacity while optimizing staff
engagement. The position is a 0.25 FTE administrative role and
reports to the UNC HCS Executive Medical Director for Capacity
Creation & Management, while partnering with the Executive Medical
Director for the West Region. Description of Job Responsibilities
Assists with the oversight and accountability of clinical services
for UNC Health Capacity Command Center – East, including ensuring
the goals and operating procedures of the department align with the
priorities of UNC Health’s strategic vision. In partnership with
Capacity Command Center Regional Satellite Director, they will:
Plan, develop, and evaluate clinical processes associated with the
department’s operations Partner with Capacity Command Center
operational leaders and fellow Executive Regional Medical
Director(s) to address EMTALA concerns Take part in local regional
satellite budgeting, clinical protocol alignment with the system,
and local regional provider escalations as appropriate Partners
closely in dyad with Satellite Operations Director to ensure
optimal patient, staff, and clinician experience while ensuring
exceptional quality of care. Participates in cross-collaboration
with the operational and medical leadership from affiliated command
center regional satellite(s) Actively involved in outreach
activities with affiliated and non-affiliated facilities utilizing
local regional satellite services Present and participatory in
local capacity meetings Leading Change - Identifies and enlists the
support of key local physicians and groups to promote
collaboration. Takes steps to remove barriers or accelerate process
pace related to patient flow and capacity management Serves as a
role model by demonstrating commitment to innovation and continuous
improvement in organizational performance Participates in system
transfer case review, regional satellite case review and local
quality meetings to optimize departmental success and address
process change recommendations and escalation needs Provides
education regarding EMTALA and transfer center protocols to
stakeholders and shares relevant data Leading People – Supports
local regional satellite staff toward meeting the organization's
vision, mission, and goals. Actively participates in, and

patient throughput Qualifications/Competencies: Board
certified/eligible physician in their practice specialty NC Medical
License Minimum 7 years of clinical practice; leadership experience
preferred Exceptional relationship building and networking skills
Skilled in creating effective partnerships with the medical staff,
external providers, and others to improve safe patient flow
Outstanding communication skills; can express opinions openly and
non-defensively Strong work ethic, unquestionable integrity, and
character Approachable, flexible, and adaptable to change Strong
attention to detail and accuracy; excellent organizational skills
Visible leader who approaches leadership through regular, direct
communication with command center staff, senior leaders, and
affiliate/non-affiliate leaders, both provider and non-provider
stakeholders Possesses strong knowledge of the healthcare field
including current and future capacity management and patient flow
trends, its associated technology, and information affecting the
field and organization Ability to negotiate and maneuver through
