The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD), located in Wilson, North Carolina provides specialized instruction for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students. ENCSD was founded in 1964 and serves the 54 easternmost counties in North Carolina. As a part of the NC Department of Public Instructions Education Services for the Deaf and Blind; the mission is to provide individualized comprehensive educational, vocational, and residential programs for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students leading to productive, independent, and successful lives.

The major purpose of this position is to provide clerical/secretarial services to the School Principal. This position entails managing calendars, opening mail, scheduling meetings and interviews, scheduling observations and conferences, typing correspondence, completing travel authorization forms & reimbursement forms, typing, troubleshooting IT issues, preparing work orders & distributing minutes, and maintaining data entry on student information in the PowerSchool software platform. This position provides clerical/secretarial services to all members of the K-12 Academic Program working directly under the School Principal.

This is a 12-month position that follows the Academic Calendar.

Ability to answer questions about the organization and its functions.

Possess considerable typing speed and accuracy.

Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures and appropriate format of letters, memos, reports, etc.

Ability to perform duties that require close visual attention for lengthy periods of time (i.e. typing, proofing, computer operation, etc.).

Considerable knowledge of word processing skills, spread sheets and database creation and maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with PowerSchool experience and American Sign Language (ASL) skills.
