skilled work position consisting of operational duties for the
Bakery Meal Plant, an agricultural processing facility for
Smithfield Grain, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods. This position
is primarily to assist the Bakery Meal Plant in managing product
flow by monitoring and using the operational controls system. Core
ResponsibilitiesFollows standard operating instructions/procedures
in the performance of all duties, including inspection and safe
operation of powered industrial vehicles, housekeeping, and
inventory management, and process flows.Monitor and operate the PLC
(programmable logic controller) system.Operate powered industrial
vehicles in all areas.Assists with inventory.Must have strong
attention to detail in order to ensure sufficient operation of the
bakery meal plantPerforming all work tasks in a manner consistent
with the site's Environmental Management System Policy to
include:
Following all established environmental policies and
procedures.
Reporting all environmental issues immediately to their
supervisor.
Understanding the EMS Policy and the Significant Aspects Related to
their job; and,
Understanding the proper steps to follow in the event of an
environmental emergency. Operates equipment in a safe manner to
protect the assets of the company and reduce risks to other
workers.Maintains personal safety as well as the safety of other
workers by taking an active role in the Smithfield Injury
Prevention System (SIPS). This will include:
Understanding the need for and participating in all scheduled SIPS
safety training and safety related competency development
activities.
Providing feedback on SIPS training and competency needs as
requested by the Safety Manager or other members of management.
Understanding and conforming with the safety policy; safety related
legal and other requirements; and, site specific safety and health
rules, regulations, standard operating procedures and other
operational controls as they relate to their job
responsibilities.
Reporting unsafe conditions or observed SIPS non-conformances.
Understanding and executing required duties under the site's
emergency response and notification procedures.
Immediately reporting any work-related incident which results in,
or which could have resulted in, injury, illness, or property
damage.
Understanding the location's safety objectives that relate to their
job responsibilities.
Providing recommendations to management for continual improvement
and injury prevention.
Where appropriate, volunteering and participating in SIPS
activities.

A Minimum of a High School diploma or GED is required.
Previous experience with PLC software preferred.
Must have skills in attention to detail and focus.
Ability to read and understand common documents such as safety
rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in
English.
Effective communication with other employees and Bakery Meal
Management.
Must have basic computer skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Works in dusty areas.
Will work in non-temperature-controlled warehouse environment.
Must be able to work flexible hours in a 24-hour facility,
including night, holiday, and weekends. Longer hours may be
required based upon business need.
Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic
environment.
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while
building strong working relationships and a positive work

Must be able to work with and around a wide range of bakery waste
products some of which will contain allergens (i.e. peanuts).
Must be able to tolerate the dust generated by the mechanical
movement of bakery by-product materials and bakery meal dust.
