Job Description:
Position Summary The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
( UNC ) offers an 18-month fellowship in comparative anatomic
veterinary pathology, made possible by a generous donation from
Charles River Laboratories, Inc ( CRL ). The position offers
research and training opportunities that emphasize translational,
computational, toxicologic, and digital pathology, as well as
experience with advanced methodologies and related fields. At UNC ,
the Fellow will participate in diagnostic necropsies, support
biomedical research, and receive mentorship from 4 board-certified
veterinary pathologists. Additionally, practical toxicologic and
digital pathology experience and mentorship through CRL provides
the Fellow with skills essential for a successful modern career in
veterinary pathology. Throughout the Fellowship, individuals will
have the opportunity to participate in research using digital
pathology, machine learning, deep learning, artificial
intelligence, and digital image analysis. Other training
opportunities include clinical rounds and staff meetings,
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC ) protocol and
amendment review, research and resident seminars, an on-site
clinical veterinary diagnostic laboratory, pathology sample
collection management, seminars and courses offered by the
Davis-Thompson Foundation, and continuing education offered at
national meetings ( AVMA , ACVP , STP , and others). Required
Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience DVM / VMD from an AVMA
-accredited or equivalent institution Completed at least 2 years of
anatomic pathology residency training Eligible to take the American
College of Veterinary Pathology’s phase II examination Preferred
Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Background with
experiences showing a genuine interest in pursuing a career in
laboratory animal/comparative medicine and/or research.
